Origanum vulgare

Zones 5-9.  Grows to 24 inches high producing small pink/lavender flowers.  Bees love this plant.  Grow in full sun or partial shade in well drained soil.  Enjoys a hot, drier environment that resembles its native Mediterranean origins.

Oregano contains essential oils, bitters, tannic acid and resins that account for its expectorant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative and anti-inflammatory actions.  It is traditionally used for easing gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders...and flavoring pasta, of course.
