Prunella vulgaris


Low growing herb that will form a ground cover 8-10 inches high, left to its own devices.  Produces purple to white flowers.  Plant in full sun to partial shade in rich soil.

Traditionally used as a vulnerary to care for wounds both internally and externally.  Also used as an anti-spasmodic, astringent, bitter tonic, diuretic, and styptic.  Sometimes used as gargle for throat irritation and internally as an astringent for diarrhea.
