Salvia officinalis

Garden, or common, sage is a beautiful perennial to include in your garden, whether you pluck it for the kitchen or not.  It is an evergreen shrub that grows to approximately 2 feet tall and produces the typical Salvia flowers, if allowed.  It likes well drained soil in full sun in zones 5-9.  The leaves and flowers are edible and used in cooking raw or cooked.  As a medicinal herb it has been used as an antispetic, antispasmodic, tonic, carminative and astringent.
