Monarda didyma

Common name, bee balm.  This 3 foot tall plant produces pink to lavender colored flowers from mid to late summer.  Attractive to bees and butterflies.  Plant in sun or partial shade in moist, well drained and fertile soil.

Bee balm, in addition to be a delightful addition to an herbal tea, is traditionally used to assist digestive disorders, particularly flatulent colic and nausea.  In addition, it has a history of use as an anthelmintic, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, rubefacient and stimulant.
